PUR, Purifier of Water

Eleos Project and the "Never Thirst Again" clean water initiative will be using the PUR
product as one of our strategies to bring clean, safe drinking water to people in rural
areas of Kenya. This strategy will be used for the initial approach in communities that
are waiting for their hand pump to be repaired or the drilling and construction of a new
water well.

There is now conclusive evidence that simple, low-cost interventions at the household
and community level are capable of dramatically improving the quality of household
stored water and reducing the risk risks of deadly water-borne diseases.

PUR, Purifier of Water is a product specifically designed and geared towards people
in developing countries.  PUR was developed by a team of scientists from Proctor and
Gamble and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The advantages of using PUR are:

1.)  Visible sign that water is cleaner by removing turbidity (dirt) and arsenic

2.)  Simple to use at-home control

3.)  Affordability (the cost to treat one liter is about 1 cent)

4.) Significantly removes pathogenic bacteria, protozoa, viruses, and parasites from water

The PUR product has the same ingredients used in large-scale water treatment facilities,
but has been reverse-engineered at a smaller scale to purify water directly in the home.

PUR can be used to treat dirty, contaminated surface water in rural areas where municipal
water supplies and water wells do not exist.

This river water in rural Kenya was treated with PUR by our team on a recent trip to Kenya.
Would you drink this water? For many people in developing countries this is all they have
for drinking, cooking, bathing and for laundry.

The treatment process is easy and does not require expensive high-tech equipment or specialized training. PUR was designed to be used by people in rural areas of developing countries. The treatment process takes about 30 minutes.

The transformation from dirty water to clean, safe drinking water has begun.

The treatment process has finished. The result is clean, safe drinking water for the whole
family at  the low cost of 1 cent per liter!

Would you drink this water now?  We did after it was treated with PUR.   More than 100 million liters of clean, safe drinking water have provided to people in need using PUR.

This strategy is geared to building a model that is
Holistic, Appropriate and Sustainable.
